We are finally home from vacation. We had a grand time, and it is always hard to leave, but it is also very good to be home!
We got in around midnight last night, we should have been home by about 9pm, the rain slowed us up a lot. It rain off and on all day. We also got stuck in some major traffic delays in Atlanta, I think the rain caused those too. People driving stupidly in unsafe conditions. Then, somewhere between Meridian, MS and Forrest, MS, we picked up a nail in our back passenger tire, Of all the things we didnt need!
I was driving, and I noticed the car was pulling, but it was rainy and windy, so I didnt think too much of it. When we stopped in Forrest, MS to change drivers, we saw the tire was very very very low. Not quite flat, but close.
So we discussed our options. We have a spare (what I would call a 'donut' good for 40 miles or somthing like that), in the bottom of the trunk, under all our suitcases and stuff. We could pull everything out of the trunk, put the spare on, and hope it lasts the 50 miles we have to get to Jackson. (we have changed tires in the past, and it hasnt gone the best) In the rain mind you, so the things from the trunk would get wet during this too. Or we could air up the tire and see if it is a slow enough leak that we could get from exit to exit and air up as we needed to. We decided to at least try that option, knowing the next exit was only about 10 miles down the road.
We took it slow, and made it fine, when we checked at the next exit, the tire seemed to be holding the air well, so we kept going. We stopped twice more before getting to Jackson to check the tire and it was fine each time. We had to put more air in it once we got to Jackson. But because we were only driving about 55mph, it took so long to make the treck across MS.
Eric had to go to work at 4am, and the mustang has transmisson problems so we cant drive it, so we really needed the tire to last until Eric could take it to the repair shop after the morning show. 'Cause if he had gotten up at 3am and the tire was flat enough he couldnt drive on it, we would have had a serious problem. Eric wouldnt have had a way to work.
I cant tell you how many prayers we sent up last night.
I felt so sick last night, in the dark and rain, praying we could just limp home on the bad tire. Which was a bit rediculous, but it had been such a long day, and Eric needed at least some sleep to get through today, and I was trying to think what we would do if the tire didnt hold air, or if the tire blew out on the interstate, or if it was fine until Eric was trying to leave to go to work and then he was stuck without a ride. Who do you call at 4am?
Anyway, God provided, as He always does, and I knew my fretting was pointless. I knew it at the time and couldnt seem to relax.
Im just so glad to be home and safe and the tire is fixed and all is well. Not too much sleep though, poor Eric got about 3 hours! He is back at work and I am getting lessons ready for Monday and Wednesday and trying to unpack and do laundry etc.
