Today was a busy day! Part of our Christmas from my parents was a gift card to Lowes. They knew we needed a lawn mower. So, the gift card along with the majority of our Christmas cash from a variety of family members, bought us our first lawn mower.
It is red and shiny. We had to put it together (somewhat anyway) before we could use it the first time. That was an experience by itself. :)
Yesterday and several days earlier in the week were rainy and nasty, so we hadnt gotten any mowing really done until today. Here is what our yard looked like this afternoon, before the lawn work started.

The mower has a bag on the back, but with so many leaves, Eric went over the yard first with the bag off, just chopping things up, and then went back over it with the bag on, picking up the clippings.
Here are several pictures along the way.

Here we are halfway done. Look at the difference between the done and the not done areas!

Around the base of the tree and in front of the bushes are rows of big bushy monkey grass. I hate the stuff, it makes it impossible to rake leaves out and it is very overgrown. SO we are going to dig it out and make a flower border in its place. SO Eric chopped the monkey grass down with the mower while we were working.

We worked for nearly 4 hours and have probably 25 big 36 gallon leaf bags full of clippings. We are not quite done, but very very close!
Here is how it looks now.

We still want to beautify things, but there is still some plain old upkeep needed. A little more raking and some more trimming. There is half of an old brick walkway that is loose and uneven, and we want to pull that up and put down new pavers. WE also have plans for flowers and that sort of thing.
One step at a time I guess!
