Today we went to see my hand surgon for a follow up from Friday's surgery. They removed the bulky dressing that was put on during the surgery. My hand is pretty swollen. There is stiffness and I can't bend my fingers very far. The incision is a little longer than I expected...about 1 1/4" long. They did not put more dressings on, only steri-strips covering the incision. The stiches are disolvable. I am supposed to limit lifting anything with weight, but otherwise I need to use my hand as much as I can stand. The metal plate and screws are smaller than I expected.

This is today's x-ray of my left hand. It shows the small metal plate and screws placed during surgery. The alignment of my finger bones is very good. I am very pleased!
As you can see, my hand is fairly swollen. The incision is pretty good length, although some dried blood makes it look longer than what it might actually be. I can't get it wet until a week from Wednesday. I still have quiet a bit of pain, but the pain killers help. Right now we need to work on getting the swelling down and regaining my range of motion, which is limited at the moment.

Otherwise all is going well. We are very glad to have this last surgery behind us. I think we are coping very well.
